Christmas party-playdate

This morning we got some of the two-year olds together and had a holiday-themed party/playdate. The girls brought cookies and sweets and I made sausage balls, oreo balls, grilled cheeses, hot cocoa, whipped cream, and white chili. The kids played in the [super messy] playroom for a little while, then we all chowed down. After everyone was good and sugared up we decorated graham cracker "gingerbread" houses. They were a huuuge hit!

Jennifer and Braedon.

Mandy and Brian.

I figured the boys would be more interested in eating the candy than decorating with it--which they had their fair share of--but the "roofs" were borderline caving in by the end of it. Even if many of the pieces were half-chewed...

I had a pom pom ornament kit for everyone to put together. I hadn't anticipated the small parts or how complicated they would be. Mostly the moms did the assembling, although Riley insisted on squeezing the glue out. Jennifer's cardinal was much better than my [truly awful] penguin.

Painful to look at, isn't it?

The chairs, table, and floor were [are] covered in green and red sprinkle sugar (Riley got a little crazy with the shakers) and icing. Signs of a fun party, right?

Everybody went home with goodies and "reindeer food" to sprinkle out on Christmas Eve. I made sure to put one together for James, who felt left out leaving for school this morning.

We finished up the festivities with "pin-the-nose-on-the-reindeer". Notice how Braedon's are all right there on the nose, but Riley decided to give the deer some new eyes and an antler. Early Picasso?

Aftermath. I feel a little like Hansel and Gretel's witch, living in a house made of candy.

We couldn't have asked for a better time!
