Christmas program + tree decorating

Fred hung out with the soldier nutcrackers this morning.

James's preschool put on their Christmas program this morning. I've been sweating whether Jason would get to make it all semester, so I'm thrilled that it all worked out! The kids made their little shirts--the reindeer's faces are foot prints and the antlers are their hands. Precious! The first song they sang was the "reindeer hokey pokey" and they wore jingle antlers.

They also sang "Happy Birthday Jesus" and "Christmas Christmas".

James spent most of the songs scoping the audience out looking for us, then clamming up because it was a little overwhelming with so many people around. He moved his mouth around occasionally and waved his arms a couple times. I'll take it!

Oh and picked his nose. Best. Picture. Ever.

After the other age groups performed, all the kids sang "Feliz Navidad" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" (he's been singing them around the house for weeks now). They provided refreshments for everyone afterwards and Jason got to meet some of the other parents and James's many girlfriends.

We had planned a date night for the evening and had our hopes up since everyone was feeling pretty good this morning. A few coughs and runny noses, but better...Then Riley woke up from naptime with a high fever and a rattle in his chest, crying hysterically, so we cancelled the sitter and opted for a mellow night in, instead.

We all got in our pj's, Jason popped a frozen pizza in the oven, we lit up the tree, glittered some fake fruit, hung ornaments, and snuggled on the couch under the big down comforter.

I was the only one who broke an ornament. Oh, and some beaded garland. There was lots of swearing. And vacuuming.

Jason and I tried to keep each other in check--and keep our sense of humor. It worked pretty well and every time we got frustrated, it usually ended with laughing.

There is a branch covered in blue ornaments and another covered in gold ornaments. Most of our decorations (the least heavy/breakable of them, anyway) are within the bottom two feet of the tree.

Finished product! The bears under the tree were James's personal touch.

Dog-pile on Daddy!

Merry Christmas!
